So after two issues of the Court of Owls running in Nightwing, we now have a new story arc where Nightwing must figure out how his escrima sticks wound up at the crime scene of a double murder. At the same time, Dick Grayson is trying to start a new venture in Gotham by re-opening the Amusement Mile which according to Dick, was once the soul of the city. As usual, Dick doesn’t want to bother asking Bruce for money so who does he wind up talking to? Sonia Zucco, the daughter of the man who killed Dick’s parents. Awkward. So we see NIghtwing follow up on his investigation which leads him an abandoned clock tower and a new villain called Paragon. Everyone needs a good rogue in his gallery.
I continue to enjoy the journey I am getting in this book. I have loved the character of Dick Grayson since I was small and seeing his backstory and origins told in a new and interesting way is always nice. I like this new goal of Dick’s about opening this amusement park in Gotham City and asking the employees of Haly’s Circus to perform at the amusement park. It adds something cool to the character as well as some supporting characters to the book. I like this Detective Nie. You can tell he’s got a real beef with the Bat-Family and I’m curious to see how far he’s willing to go and on the opposite end of the spectrum, I also like the Deputy Mayor who wants to help clear Nightwing for saving his life in the previous issue.
The art in this issue as always has been stellar. I love how everything seems to flow so smoothly from one panel to the next and coloring and inking only add to the overall enjoyment when it comes to the art. I’m excited to see what comes next for Nightwing as he examines his role in Gotham City. I’m even getting used to the red in the costume instead of the blue. This book has been a top of the stack read for me since it came out and it continues to be so.
