ARTIST NAME: Ken Meyer, Jr.

COMMISSION ARRANGED: Late February 2003

COMMISSION PROMISED: A few weeks to a month

COMMISSION DELIVERED: Early February 2004

LOOSELY BASED ON:

COMMENTS: Something struck me when looking at the Lee Elias golden
age cover. I was drawn to the face of the hapless male. The
expression is that of sorrow mixed with desperation. I kept
wondering how to incorporate the layout into a strong Astro-Zombie
piece. I decided on using a minor theme in science fiction and
horror movies: Newlyweds.

To up the emotions of the groom I asked for one of the arms to be
removed. I wanted it obvious that he was mortally wounded, but still
his concern lay with his bride. I also requested overt symbolism
with the presiding minister. The scene takes place on the church
altar to increase the drama.

I did have a slight problem keeping Ken sticking to our original agreement, but things turned out properly when all was said and done.

Here's the finished artwork:

I received my commission from Ken a couple of weeks ago.
I had commissioned him about a year before (similar to Scott's experience above).

I touched base with him numerous times over that year. He kept assuring me it's coming and didn't seem to be avoiding the responsibility so I wasn't too concerned. I did see him at a couple of comic conventions doing commissions but didn't bug him to do mine. :)

He never truly did the commission but offered to send me a painting he did for a class instead. The painting had Space Ghost and Brak in it so he thought it would be appropriate for my "Cartoons" theme.
It's nice - and funny.

Just wanted to update this thread with my Ken Meyer Jr. commission report.
