Your wish is my command:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdxRD2qk ... L&index=18

These are Youtube videos of Hughes drawing at conventions. Both videos are in multiple parts. These links are to the first parts of each video. You can link to the subsequent parts from there.

As far as his Photoshop coloring goes (like his Tomb Raider covers) I don't know of any tutorials about that, but I've heard it said that he colors using the pencil tool at a low opacity setting, going over an area multiple times to build up the color.

This seems like a maddening process to me, but I certainly can't argue the results.

oh so that's why he's only got a few arts finished and a lot of sketches in his site. [wonder what it'd be like if he worked on Danger Girl]

is it 'shell shading'?

Thanks man!

I think one of the main reason he does so many sketches is that he gets over $100 apiece (last I heard) at conventions, which I imagine rakes in a fair bit of money for relatively little effort versus the full color work.

I do think it would be cool if he did something with Danger Girl. I'd buy it.

i saw the video. it was really cool. got a lot of ideas.

and how hard it is to have a adam hughes sketch.

also, i found out the technique. it's called "Art Nouveau".

i tried using GIMP photo editor on couple of drawing i scanned.

it was hard but the results were really neat.

adam hughes rocks 8)

Ah, Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil or Stile Liberty, if you prefer). One of my personal favorites in art and architechture.

If you haven't already, you might check out the art of Alphonse Mucha the artist most associated with the style (and one of Adam Hughes' influences).

On an unrelated note, Youtube is actually a pretty good place to find video tutorials and the like. Just type in the name of an artist you like, and more often than not you'll find something.
