Hi

I'm looking for a professional artist to provide sketches of Nightwing. I run the Nightwing fan club, and I would like to have these sketches to give out to members.

Basically, I would like an artist that has had their work published at some point. I'd like 3 full body shots (no larger than 9 x 12) and 4 or 5 "headshots."

If anyone can help, please respond.
Thanks
Will

You want a professional artist to 'donate' free art, correct? Just making sure.

No, I'm willing to pay. Sorry... The commissions listed in the auction section are for 1 drawing, and I need more than that.

Al Rio can do some amazing commissions - according to your taste and budget.
He would do the full body and 11x17 but could do head shots on smaller paper. Is exact size important to the project?

See his commission samples, details, prices, wait times, etc here:

Al Rio is a published artist with many fans.
You can see his comic pages and bio/credits on the site.

It depends on the artist I guess, and his/her level of skill and how much work the artist has published.

I've noticed that some auctions here are as low as $25 and some as high as $300. Basically I'd like to hear offers for my request as a whole (3 full body shots and 4-5 "head shots"). Ideally I'd like to pay around $130 for the entire request.

Are you an artist? I have some very specific requests for the body shots. I tried to buy some sketches at a comic convention recently and was not pleased with the drawings I got. The costumes were wrong and the drawings were not as good as the sample material I was shown of the artist's work. As a result, I want to really work out the details before committing to paying for artwork.

Thank you, but $350 for 1 drawing of 1 character is unfortunately out of my price range... His work is beautiful though

Yeah, I'm an artist. To be honest, I was just surprised you actually planned to pay for work. So many people expect artists to work for nothing.

If you want, go to Deviantart.com. There's tons of artists there who are looking for commissioned work.

Really? People expect stuff for free? That seems unthinkable to me. You guys are professionals, you draw for work. So I should pay for any work I want... I guess I'm just a good little capitalist.

Thanks for the advice, I will check out that site. If you're interested in the commission too, let me know.

There are also auctions for commissions here on this site:
http://comicartcommunity.com/browse.php?id=229

The costs are probably in your price range.

I'd be interested in doing it but when I hear the words 'very specific requests' I just know that whatever I do probably won't be good enough. lol

Now, I do business mostly with clients who are really open-minded about requests. They'll say "Draw me a female version of Doc Savage." or something and I'll just go to town with the idea. When people start requesting precise poses and things it sucks the life out of doing commission work for a living.

Hey,

When I say "very specific request", I mean in terms of Nightwing's costume. He's had a few through the years, and he is wearing a new one in his last two issues.

Basically, I'm afraid I'll get 3 drawings of the character in a costume I don't like. I'd want to send you a picture of the NW costume I'd like him in and then you can do anything you want after. Like I said, I got burned at a convention once and don't want to repeat that experience.

Can you provide me with a sample of your work?

Wow, great stuff! I just sent an email to Jean Sinclair to see if he would be interested also. I think I may split my request between the two of you (if he's interested). Give me a day to hear back from him? Would you be interested in doing two full body drawings and two headshots? How much would that cost? Are we talking pencil, inks, colors?

This is the costume I'd like to see him in. Anything outside of that is yours to play with.

Thanks!

Hey man,

Yeah, sure, take your time. I do have a full schedule so I wouldn't be able to jump into your commissions right away anyhow. I don't ink my work, but digital colors would be extra.

I could do pencilled single character/no background pics for $40 each. $15 each for the headshots.

I can't believe how fast things move here. Jean Sinclair is willing to do some of the drawings as well. Since he's in agreement and your plate is full, why not make it 1 pencil single character drawing and 2 headshots? let me know when you are set and how/when I can pay you.

Thanks
Will

That's fine.

Feel free to pay via Paypal to shade100@gmail.com whenever you want. Once payment is confirmed I'll put your requests on my commission list and they'll be done in the order they were paid for.

I'm interested as well, but only if you don't have anyone else. Goodluck with it!
