I just got season 1 of this and I like it but it reminds me why I prefer Batman over Superman. Superman just tries to out muscle everything, he doesn't use his brain. If I were Superman, any new dude that is causing trouble gets the heat vision first, then I'll knock his block off or use my speed to win. Batman always defaults to his batarangs or gas pellets or something, so he can win. Batman always has a plan. Superman just shows up and expects to win mostly due to his strength. Opinions :?: Comments :?:

I know I'm biased but I always go with Batman. I have always thought he is the most dangerous hero in the world because he is so ruthless and so damn smart. Superman is pretty much a one or two step plan but Batman has every move planned with a dozen contingency plans to back it up.Plus he doesn't have super powers to take for granted.
Give my son a choice between a Superman or a Batman cartoon to watch and it isn't even close; the only way he will watch the Superman ones is if Batman is in it and he is only 3 yrs. old. Plus he thinks Batgirl is way cool too.

Cheers,
Jeff

I think the biggest problem with Superman has always been that he's practically invincible. This tends to limit the scope of villains that can be a real threat to him to aliens/cosmic entities/etc. In other words, a mere mortal in a costume no matter how clever(Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, Pinguin, Harley Quinn, or just about any of Batman's rogue gallery, for example), simply isn't going to be a match for the Man of Steel. Bottom line, Superman doesn't have a contingency plan because he doesn't need one. As a result, Superman storylines are either A: generally lacking in intensity and suspense because you know that Superman isn't in any real danger or B: become too sci-fi/cosmic because those are the only kind of enemies that can present any kind of tangible threat to him, resulting in stories that all have a sort of sameness to them.

The biggest difference between Batman and Superman is simple variety. Batman has a large variety of villains who can threaten him in a large variety of ways, and who he can defeat with a large variety of solutions, whereas with Superman it's pretty well all or nothing.

And don't even get me started on kryptonite...

I think the major issue with Superman is he got way off from his routes and people just become very picky about silly things.
Like Superman originally was very plausable...he had the powers of an ant and a grasshopper...leaping and strength.
But then to overcomes great odds for 70 years...and some weird changing of his history here and there...he became this ultimate version everyone knows today.

Even though I mainly stick with the comics and cartoons when he used his brain...and everyone didn't seem to have endless supplies of Kryptonite...I still loved the series...I don't really ask for much more than being entertained for 30 minutes (or 22 or whatever) and it did that with a really cool style, it introduced me closer to Superman in a lot of ways...like I LOVE Parasite and Metallo and that's where the versions that come to mind when I think of them came from...

Plus if anyone played the game for Gamecube...that was really cool...it was like a little movie of Superman...but YOU are him...awesome job they did...Batman: Vengeance was probably still better though...Batman will always be COOLER than Superman just because he's all dark and such...or when he's bright he goes to the point of camp...too bad for the old red, blue and yellow...

Everyone always wants to be or root for the hero that is just a shade darker than the hero that is perceived as the boy scout or Mr. Goody Two Shoes. Every comic or cartoon has one.
Superman is the Boy Scout that every mother wants their daughter to marry but Batman is the guy that the girl wants because he will be the most dangerous sexy fling she will remember for the rest of her life.

The popularity of Batman vs. Superman cannot be denied either . Just compare the number of produced episodes. Batman - 104 Superman -52. I didn't count the animated movies, Batman Beyond, JLA etc. just their own shows during the 90's.

I admit That even though I love both Superman and Batman I prefer Batman. I will admit that it must be the Bruce Wayne Batman not the Dick Grayson one as I am a purist at heart.

Cheers,
Jeff

I understand Jeff (on your last point-Bruce over Dick). I do think that DC had a lot of guts to go with Dick as BATMAN and not retcon everything the way that MARVEL does every few months.

I am a huge Spidey fan....but a fan of mostly Stan Lee, Gerry Conway and stuff before the 90's. They could have done so much better with so many bad decisions. I just don't care anymore. They could have made Ben Reiley the "real" SPIDER-MAN but didn't have the guts. They could have made the whole clone saga a lot shorter and more understandable, but it was a mess.

At least DC has made a decision and stuck with it. Kudos to DC.

I don't see the Dick Grayson Batman lasting. Dan Didio even made the statement that the Bruce Wayne Batman wasn't gone forever

Capt. America is coming back. Hal Jordan went evil, died and came back. Flash had a glorious death and then came back. Superman anyone? The New Gods have died and popped back. Even Darkseid if you count the 30th century version. Jean Grey has died lots of times. Vindicator at least twice that I can think of. I'm sure the list goes on and on.

My pet peeve is the way companies let so called great writers burn characters and continuity for short term sales and marketing ploys that ultimately turn readers off and end up biting them in the asses in the long term. The Spider-Man clone Wars come to mind and the Death of Superman. The sorry treatment of Capt. America and the way Bucky has been treated over the years comes to mind.

I think Mark Verheiden wrote the best series about the expendable hero when he did the series The American in 1987 for Dark Horse; if you have never read it you should it is fantastic.

The constant restarting and revamping of characters until you don't know which way is up anymore and you don't really care anymore. I am so tired of the gender changes of some of my favorite characters it's getting silly.

Sorry about the soapbox rant. I know my time is up.

Cheers,
Jeff
