I wanted something different from my usual Wildcats V3.0 commissions and had an epihany on what I wanted Marat to do. My 2 favorite playstation 2 games are Soul Calibur 2 and DOA 2: Hardcore. I wanted Marat to use my 2 favorite characters in combat, Ivy and Tina.

Great Looking results:

I asked Marat for a Lady Shiva piece with her in a waterfall. The piece is a full 11x17 from edge to edge, I have never had an artist do this before.
Marat also apologized (unnecesarily I might add) for taking so long, what a great guy!!

Somewhat spicey for that little devil in all of us,

I sent Marat a jpeg for reference but everything else came from his fertile imagination. :D

I approached Marat about doing another commission for me but this time as a double page splash. The tie-in would be the 2 hats used in the pieces. Marat went a bit further and also used the feet of one of the characters as a bridge between the 2 pieces.

I have always loved the Howard Chaykin version of the Shadow DC published in 1986 and decided to use that character. The other is my favorite female used in the Wildcats V3.0 series, C.C. Rendozza.
Be warned that the art does contain nudity.

2 New Commissions by Marat

1) Batman and Wonder Woman, the Wonder Woman costume is from the Deodato/Loebs run where she was stripped of her title by her mother.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/details.php?image_id=3

2) Ghost Vs. Hericane, this is for my 2nd banana theme gallery featuring characters not that well known by the general public.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... pdqbrkaeq5

Marat is always great to work with, so give him the opportunity to create something for you :D

His new website is now up and running:

Best,
Jeff

Another Marat commission, this one is for my Batman Vs. the Amazons theme.

http://www.soldier1941.com/mychaels/1/artemis.jpg

Featuring Artemis taking on Batman.

Hopefully Marat will be available for others after SDCC.

Best,
Jeff

Arranged: September 2005

Deliverd: October 2005

Halloween is my favorite holiday, I love anything related to it. As I am typing this I am listening to Rob Zombie go figure that one out.
Anyway Marat has never been one to disappoint me when I have asked him to tackle a commission subject for me.
So why should halloween be any different?

The characters:

Demonslayer - The perfect choice for him, since he created her and with demon in the name I knew I couldn't go wrong.

Brother Blood - Again, I have a prerequiste for halloween in the characters name, blood.

Starfire - A sexier character doesn't come to mind :D

The final commission has been posted on Marat's site and I couldn't be prouder to have him say "its one of my favorite pieces I've done in a long time" I mean to have the artist say that means alot to me, and it's MINE, ALL MINE!!!!!!

So here it is:

I had been talking to Marat about a Dark Phoenix commission based on a certain model who I thought had the perfect look for Jean Grey but lost the references. So he said that eventhough his calendar was getting busy (if or) when I found the references he would go ahead and do the piece for me. Since it wasn't a set thing I didn't figure there would be a set time frame for this one and he would do it when he got the time. I found the references about 2 1/2 weeks later and sent them with the funds.

Today as I was leaving work FEDEX brought me a package and the art was inside.
TALK ABOUT SERVICE!! :D
6 DAYS FROM COMMISSION TO DELIVERY, WOW!! :D

I know it's just a pinup but I have other artists who have undertaken similar commissions who have taken 6 months to 2 years to complete the same thing!

I always give Marat as much freedom as he wants to create a piece for me. I give him the character references and a nonbinding suggestion and leave the rest to him.

If you haven't guessed by now Marat is my favorite commission artist, I love his style. This Black Cat will hopefully be in his 2006 convention sketchbook.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=30

I can't say enough about how professional and easy to work with he is. He is one of the most under used talents in comics today. When I see some of the dreck that is being published by the "Big 3" it makes me sick to see so many missing out on seeing Marat's art.

So just don't stand on the sidelines let him create a masterwork for you too.

Best,
Jeff

Hiya Jeff,

I agree with you 100 %. Marat has been a personal favorite of mine since I saw his work on the Brigade comic series and just this yeah I found his own site and was overjoyed to find he accepts commissions. I'm saving up to get one. I know for sure I'm going to get his sketchbook.

Glad to find a fellow Marat fan Brett.

Here is another commission that Marat did as part of a package deal for the sketchbook as well. I am happy that Marat gave the opportunity to me to be able to receive so many commissions at once over so short a timeframe.

http://www.soldier1941.com/mychaels/1/ww2.jpg

I must admit I love his versions of Wonder Woman that I own. I especially love the amount of detail that he puts into every piece. The scan doesn't do the art justice on showing the level of detail that went into the piece itself. If you could see what he did on her hair alone I think you would be stunned.

Jeff

The next one was one that I commissioned about a month ago. I gave Marat the choice of 2 different characters to choose from. The characters are from the Judge Dredd universe; 1) Judge Cassandra Anderson and 2) Judge Barbara Hershey. Marat picked Judge Anderson who is actually probably my favorite as well so I am a happy camper.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=34

Marat said that he wasn't sure about the off-the-shoulder look but I like it so he's happy with it.

I still need a Barbara Hershey now though.:D

Best,
Jeff

One of my favourite TV shows was Firefly and I really loved the film Serenity so I decided that I would start a theme gallery based on the two.

Naturally I decided that Marat was my first choice for the first one, Mal and Inara.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=33
I like this one because it stands true to the tone set by the series.

I am looking forward to one day finally meeting Marat and telling him thank you for all the wonderful work in person.

Best,
Jeff

Marat wasn't familar with either Firefly or Serenity before I asked him to undertake the piece for me. I think for what he had to work with he did an excellent commission.

Best,

I scanned 2 new commission pieces that Marat did for me as part of a package deal.
Fan favorite of 2005 & 2006 because of the work of Ed Benes and Ian Churchill Supergirl

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=19

It's a large piece so it might download slow. I kept it big because I wanted everyone to see all the detail Marat puts into his work.
:D

The next is the X-Men's Southern Belle Rogue.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=15

Being born and raised in the south I can tell you that the majority of the women here look as beautiful as she does

As always Marat does impeccable work. EVERYONE NEEDS TO VISIT HIS SITE & HIRE HIM TO DO THEM A COMMISSION :)

Best,
Jeff

Great stuff Jeff

I had the pleasure of seeing those in the 2006 Sketchbook I got from Marat. I will be commissioning him soon for a piece. He is such a great artist with tremendous talent. He such a great guy and I too would one day hope to meet him in person.

If you have ever visited my website www.soldier1941.com (shameless plug  )besides links to several different artists my 2 main guys are Dustin Nguyen and Marat Mychaels.

Most of my Dustin art is from his excellent run on Wildcats V3.0; which IMHO has been the best combination of art & story the characters have ever experienced together. In no means am I knocking Lee, Charest, Benes, D'Anda, etc. The point I am trying to make is that most times the writing and the art were never the same caliber.
I am a great fan of the entire Wildcats V3.0 series but if sales numbers were the mark of a great comic I probably was the only one who thought so but I really don't think that was the case.
The new Wildcats Nemesis series is terrible in my opinion; the characters are back to being one dimensional spandex wearing whiners. Let's forget about all the emotional growth, intrigue and humanity that the characters have gone through. I think this made them and the story/art/characters alot more fun and way more dangerous. Instead let's go back to the way they were in (shudder)the Image days.

GET OFF THE SOAP BOX JEFF - (Sorry I need to slap myself) SLAP!!

Anyway this is my revenge commission and the first of a new DeathMate Collection.

Demonslayer Vs. Zealot (Wildcats V4.0 version)

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/details.php?image_id=9

Marat went way beyond the call on this one. The whole piece from start to delivery was about 2 weeks.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best,
Jeff

I have been consumed with other things of late; chamber business, yamboree stuff, end of school for my wife (she's a teacher) and extended summer hours at the dealership. I haven't kept up with my commissions & instead of me waiting on artists to deliver it has been the other way around; artists have been waiting on me for references and descriptions.
Even with all the delays on my part though Marat always delivers more than what I ask for and quicker than what I expect.

The idea was part 2 of my Deathmate Collection, this time featuring 2 well known powerhouses Wonder Woman and She-Hulk. Both I figure are pretty evenly matched on the intelligence side and I give She-Hulk the advantage in sheer strength. I gave Wonder Woman the edge when it came to speed, flight and the most important aspect a killer instinct.

Marat used something in the art that I hadn't thought of, Wonder Woman's lasso.

So without further chatter I present Wonder Woman Vs. She-Hulk
http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=27

slight nudity warning as well

Best,
Jeff

Hey Damon,

I was actually planning on getting one from Darryl if he going to be at Comic Con this July but I found out last week I won't be able to go this year because of changes at work. I am so behind on my other commissions right now that it's unreal. I have artists waiting on me for references right now. :(

I found out last month that I had to change vacation plans this year so I am not going to SDCC this year; it is a real bummer for me because I was going to see Dustin, Rich, Buzz and Sandra again but I was finally going to meet Marat.

Best laid plans etc. etc.

Anyway Marat did this piece for me as a consolation because I was going to ask him to do something along these lines in San Diego.

He is in the process of doing one more for me before he makes the trip to SDCC as well.

:P

Here's a switch: Its a Marat Mychaels commission and it doesn't belong to our man JEFF! Years ago, when the Comic Art Warehouse was still alive and thriving, I decided to have a piece done featuring the Magnificent Seven, only using Marvel gunslingers in place of Yul Brynner and company. I commissioned Marat to draw it, and he brought together the Rawhide Kid, Kid Colt, Reno Jones, the Outlaw Kid, the Two-Gun Kid, Red Wolf, and the Ghost Rider (aka Phantom Rider, Night Rider) as the Seven. Throw in some Mark McKenna inks and its a done deal. You can see the result here:

I'd seen that one before and I knew that Marat felt comfortable doing a western themed piece because of it. Kudos to Damon O!! It's always nice to see how others ideas inspire us when we are searching for commissions.

I have updated all the images with threads that now work  :!:
Be sure to checkout my newly redesigned www.soldier1941.com too.

There are more changes on the horizon with hopefully more Marat art to share as well.

Best,
S1941

Halloween is almost upon us and with that said I must confess it is my favorite holiday. Marat is my favorite Halloween artist too. Here is the newest addition to my ever growing collection.

http://www.soldier1941.com/s1941/detail ... mage_id=17

I presented him with a list of characters to choose from and Satana seemed the best suited for the human sacrifice angle I was looking for.

Best,
Jeff

Nice one Jeff!
I would love to see some inks on that one. It's very cool. I love it when he does background stuff with such detail.

Happy Halloweenie!

Good Morning Everyone,

Halloween has come and gone but I didn't forget to celebrate my favorite holiday by not getting a commission from Marat.

Going with my magical theme that I carried over from last year I went with DC's resident magician Zatanna.

I hope ya'll enjoy this piece because I thought she is so smokin' hot!!

I will be posting more art in the coming days as I get back in full swing.

Cheers,
Jeff
