What's the only thing dumber than Electric Superman? Two Electric Supermen! I had almost forgotten about that whole fiasco.

In terms of ridiculous/dumb ideas, it's pretty hard to top, but I think I have a couple of candidates:

The Spider-Man clone saga.
I believe I read somewhere that that "brilliant" storyline cost Marvel roughly 50% of their Spider-Man readers. It's probably true. I was one of them.

Iron Man is really a pawn of Kang.
Someone thought it was a great idea to slap all the Iron Man readers in the face by putting forth that Iron Man had secretly been the traitorous pawn of Kang for years and then killing him off and replacing him with a teenage version of Anthony Stark from another dimension. This turned out to be such a brilliant plan that it took the whole "Heroes Reborn" saga to sort the whole thing out.

I'm not sure if this tops Electric Superman or not, but I thought they were worth mentioning.

I believe the Clone Saga was the biggest load of crap ever! Close to that, I believe is the more recent "Brand New Day" junk that I heard about....you see I quit Spidey after issue #508 of Amazing Spider-Man, when John Romita, Jr. left. Then they had the gall to say that Gwen somehow had an affair with Norman Osborn That was the last straw for me, ever.

I will look at Spidey art but I will not buy another Spidey book unless it's a classic.

I didn't know about that IRON MAN thing guys. That does sound just silly.

What makes "Brand New Day" dumb in its own special way is whole idea that Peter Parker's marriage to Mary Jane is responsible for the Spider titles' sagging readership.
The fact that MJ was Peter's wife when Spider-Man #1 sold 1,000,000 copies, "Kraven's Last Hunt" was written, Important super-villains like Venom, Carnage and Tombstone(to name a few) were introduced, would seem to suggest otherwise, but who am I to question "The House of Ideas"?

The whole Gwen Stacy debacle stems from J. Michael Straczynski wanting to introduce a character or characters that would be revealed to be Peter parker's long lost illegitimate children with Gwen. The editors nixed this idea but rather than telling him to go home and sleep it off, made the "brilliant" decision to have Norman Osbourne be the father instead(way underestimating the creepiness factor).

Straczynski himself thought this was a bad idea and in an interview with Newsarama said: "I wanted to retcon the Gwen twins out of continuity, which was something I always assumed I could do at the end of my run. I wasn't allowed to do this, and yes, it pissed me off. I felt I was left holding the bag for something I wanted to get rid of, and taking the rap for a writing lapse that I had never committed."

Bottom line, Peter should be married to MJ, Marvel should quit writing stories about Gwen Stacy having affairs with villains old enough to be her father, and people might actually start reading Spider-man again.

It's a radical idea, but it's worth a shot.

...and with the exception of the last movie, Indy's movies are better.

Yeah, the 90's were quite a rollercoaster ride for Spider-Man. I had actually forgotten about some of these "brainstorms".

1. To be fair, foil covers were kinda cool at first. It wasn't until Marvel started slapping them on every comic that ended with a 0 or a 5 with the promise that they would become an instant collectors item that the stupidity started creeping in.
2. Giant crossovers are still stupid(and still overused thanks to Joe Q).
3. Can't argue with you on that one.
4. At first Venom would appear sporadically, and when he did it was a big deal. Then somebody decided that if a little Venom was good, then a lot would be great. Who knew that would be a bad idea? Besides the readers, I mean.
5. Honestly, it's debateable if Carnage shoud have existed in the first place.

P.S. I vote for Birds of Prey to wax Heroes for Hire's backsides.
