Review: JBsuits.com’s Harley Quinn Choker by Jerry Whitworth
Following the popularity of the Suicide Squad at the box office, Harley Quinn has become a breakout star. With replicas emerging for items such as her baseball bat and bomber jacket, JBsuits.com has produced a choker collar based on the one actress Margot Robbie wears in the hit motion picture. Headquartered out of Houston, Texas and established in 2011, JBsuits.com produces film replicas for accessories and apparel from James Bond, Doctor Who, Doctor Strange, and more. The product is shipped in a resealable cellophane slip where the choker itself is contained in a black felt slip bag with a horizontal zipper. Across the felt bag in white letters is BlingSoul® whose Amazon store offers items from video games, Star Wars, and superhero films and TV series. Inside the felt bag are three 17.5” choker belts each individually sealed in resealable cellophane as the choker with the word “PUDDIN” in floating metal letters is wrapped in tissue paper.
The choker belts come in colors of white, purple, and gold as the latter has a speckled, scale-like gold finish on one side. Each belt looks and smells like genuine leather. When rubbed, the speckles on the gold belt remained intact but were rough against the skin (the letters come positioned such that the smooth side is placed against the neck). The gold-colored metal letters are lightweight but, when squeezed, don’t bend or break against normal pressure. Running and scraping a knife across the letters, there’s no peeling or cracking so the color appears to run through the metal itself. The convenience of having floating letters that can be transferred from one belt to another is burdened by the fact that they obviously will migrate over time so some infrequent adjustment maybe necessary (with the possible occasional pinch when skin gets caught between the letters). However, the stitching on the belts and fairly tight dimensions of the letters help to keep them in place which demonstrates some thought went into the floating design. The concept is rather interesting and, budget wise, is easier than buying three separate chokers with fixed letters. Looking at the chokers used in the film Suicide Squad, it appears they also employed floating letters in their design. The gold choker appears to be the most notable version employed in the film though publicity photos do show the white and purple versions. The belts in the film seem only slightly thicker and wider and the white and purple belts are fairly spot-on in design (as well as the letters). The pattern on the gold belt is a bit different in the film but that’s almost at the point of splitting hairs. You can purchase the Harley Quinn choker set on Amazon on sale for $59 (down from $89) or buy a single choker of one belt color on sale for $39 (down from $50). The choker set and a pair of purple YES SIR cuff bracelets are also available together on sale for $89 (down from $129).
