Description: By Eric Powell

SUPERMAN
“Two interpretations of Superman come automatically to mind whenever I think of him,” Powell explains of Superman. “One is the animated version in the old Fleischer cartoons made in the ’40s. The other is the Alex Ross version. Sure, that’s a relatively recent rendition of him, but Ross really captured something classic in his take.”

Speaking of classic, Powell’s interpretation seems to combine many of the most classic versions of the Man of Steel. “I do try to get that iconic feeling across with him. I don’t try to modernize him or hip him up in any way. I want my interpretation to have a classic feel. He is a timeless character, and I don’t think that should be messed with or [made] contemporary. Remember when they gave him a mullet in the ’90s? Oh, I’m not doubting the rockin’ power of a truly superb mullet...but not on Superman,” Powell laughs.
